What Exactly is the LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is a combination of the great innovation and fun that LEGO toys have always given, plus the addition of an exciting microcomputer chip and intuitive programming software that will allow your child to build LEGO robots that see, speak, feel and move.
It gives you everything your child needs to build and program their first robot in approximately one hour. Then they are on their way to building an endless line of robots if they want.

How Do You Build The Robot
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is intended for youngsters at least 10 years old. With an illustrated step-by-step manual and software, they are shown how to build their first “Quick Start” robot. It’s challenging, but not too difficult.
Since the booklet only gives the instructions to build the basic robot, your child will then be able to use their creativity to build more advanced versions. Don’t worry though, LEGO doesn’t abandon you. You can use the included software for the more advanced versions and use the MINDSTORMS website to find more instructions for the creation of many other robots, or for creating your own robots. The sky’s the limit.
This is where fun and the future meet. The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 comes with a 32-bit microprocessor, a large matrix display, 4 input and 3 output ports and a speaker, wireless Bluetooth and USB connections, Interactive Servo Motors, smart sensors and icon-based drag-and-drop programming software. It is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh.
How Does the Robot Actually Work
There is a computer controlled LEGO brick that has a 32-bit microprocessor in it, which actually is the brain of the Mindstorms robot. The Interactive Servo Motors allow you control over the robot.
There are four robot sensors. One of the sensors gives the robot vision, allowing it to avoid obstacles, detect motion and sense and measure distance. The rotation sensor is so accurate it can measure one-degree steps. Talk about precision.
Two of the sensors give the robot a sense of touch, allowing it to detect when it is being pressed or released. These sensors are used to make the robot walk, talk, close a door, pick something up or even turn off your TV. The Color Sensor distinguishes colors, light settings and can be used as a color lamp.
Finally you are ready to program your robot. Using the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 software you can create a program and then download it to the robot using the USB cable or the wireless Blue tooth connection.

You got to be kidding me. This Lego toy can solve the Rubics cube?! I remember when I was a kid I use to try to build Lego toys that looked like robots. Now these things are ACTUALLY robots! Awesome.

The best thing about this toy is that you can program it to move and act in many ways you want. For example you can make your robot emit a sound. You can control what sound it makes, how long it will last, and how loud it will be. This is all possible using the NXT device which looks like an mp3 player. It has its own LCD and navigation buttons for easy operation.
Lego truly is a great way to help your child develop their hand to eye coordination as well as helping them how to take ideas from their mind and create them in reality!
With computers being such an important part of life nowadays, introducing your kids to this combination of model building combined with software will really help them develop useful skills and understanding for later in life!
